Building a DIY CNC Milling Machine
The goal of this project is to design and build a CNC milling machine without turning any parts. Typically, building a milling machine requires a much larger milling machine to ensure smooth, parallel spindle surfaces.
Using aluminum tool plates (which are theoretically smooth to machine) and bolting key parts instead of welding should help avoid machining. After all, I'm building a milling machine because I don't have one!
The linear rails and ball screws are cheap Chinese 20mm units you can find on eBay and elsewhere.
