Hamilton Scenic Use CNC Wood Router

Hamilton Scenic Specialty got its start in 2000, custom fabricating scenery and stage sets from wood and mixed materials, for Broadway-style theater, rock and roll road shows, and other segments of the entertainment industry, which made by cnc wood router.
Hamilton Scenic Specialty handles CAD detailing, planning, construction, finishing, installation, follow-up, and long-term support for its projects, while working on fabrication in aluminum, steel, solid woods, plywoods, laminates, plastics, and veneers.
The majority of its work is creating theatrical stage scenery. Clients include Disney Theatrical for the set of its North American tour of Mary Poppins; the Blue Man Group in Orlando; and Holland America cruise ship entertainment sets.
But Hamilton Scenic Specialty has developed a new and growing niche: public art installations and museum theming made by cnc wood router throughout North America, all built and shipped from its Dundas, Ontario operation.
As stage shows have become more elabrote, sets have becoming increasingly complex, with many more parts, and styles that emphasize unusual angles and shapes, and these job could be completed by cnc wood router. Furniture for the sets is frequently custom designed and built, to match a particular perspective, work well with stage lighting and colors, etc.

Fractal 3D printing for ultra high model strengths

Some scientist on several European research institutions have developed a method using fractal design to produce low weight and ultra high strength objects.

Yong Mao of the University of Nottingham, UK and colleagues have developed a theoretical framework for building structures where the optimal hierarchical order of the structure depends on the load it needs to withstand. Using this technique, the team constructed such a structure – a simple frame – from a polymeric resin, using a “rapid prototyping technique” – which is an advanced form of 3D printing.
For the first element in their structure, Mao and colleagues simply construct a hollow beam, which they refer to as the “generation-0” element. Different values of thickness and radii of the beam are considered, so that the strongest beam can be built, with the least amount of material. The robustness of this beam is then tested by applying a load along its length and along its axis, to see if it fails across either. “We do this to analyse the failure modes at each local level, so that the structure is not unnecessarily strong at each level…we optimize for what properties are necessary,” says Mao. He explains this further by saying that if a 50 kg table balanced on hollow steel legs it would be about 10 times lighter than one with solid steel legs and just as robust.
Generation-3 element could be ten thousand times lighter then an original with the same strength.
One problem is that the structure has to be very precise and without flaws. Any imperfection could lead to serous defects.

“Even a small imperfection at a local scale could have a large impact as there is no extra material that could take the added stress and maybe that is why this kind of fabrication has not been practical to date,” explains Mao, who says that the team is also studying its models to better allow for such errors. But he is convinced that commercial techniques will improve over the coming year, providing the necessary precision tools. Mao also feels that the recently commercialized technique of 3D printing could really benefit the fabrication of these structures. “We could just upload our deferent designs to a program and people could download and print off the structures at home,” he says.
This is MAJOR discovery and push foreward for 3D printing and additive manufacturing! Let's hope it will be implemented soon in some practical solutions.

Objet desktop professional 3d printers

They look great, print great and have great promotional videos. Objet printer price? Starting at very affordable 16900 euro WITHOUT local taxes, shipping, VAT and other fees. They are highly mobile with 93kg (183 lbs).  Users will have to purchase strong desks for them. I wonder what is the price of printing materials ... Anyway, I still wont one. Big pro players need to get those prices way, way down ... Hopefully, those expiring powder printing patents will do that from next year ...

Sinterhab - 3d printed lunar module

Looks like there are some more concepts for  large scale printing on the Moon with local material. 3d printing entire lunar colonies.

SinterHab

From the site:

This project describes a design study for a core module on a NASA Lunar South Pole outpost, constructed by 3D printing technology with the use of in-situ resources and equipped with a bio-regenerative life support system. The module would be a hybrid of deployable (CLASS II) and in-situ built (CLASS III) structures. It would combine deployable membrane structures and pre-integrated rigid elements with a sintered regolith shell for enhanced radiation and micrometeorite shielding. The closed loop ecological system would support a sustainable presence on the Moon with particular focus on research activities.
The construction method for SinterHab is based on 3D printing by sintering of the lunar regolith. Sinterator robotics 3D printing technology proposed by NASA JPL enables construction of future generations of large lunar settlements with little imported material and the use of solar energy. The regolith is processed, placed and sintered by a the Sinterator robotics system which combines the NASA ATHLETE and the Chariot remotely controlled rovers. Microwave sintering creates a rigid structure in the form of walls, vaults and other architectural elements. The interior is coated with a layer of inflatable membranes inspired by the TransHab project.

Chopper - Princeton's framework for partitioning 3d printing models

Abstract from the project site:

3D printing technology is rapidly maturing and becoming ubiquitous. One of the remaining obstacles to wide-scale adoption is that the object to be printed must fit into the working volume of the 3D printer. We propose a framework, called Chopper, to decompose a large 3D object into smaller parts so that each part fits into the printing volume. These parts can then be assembled to form the original object. We formulate a number of desirable criteria for the partition, including assemblability, having few components, unobtrusiveness of the seams, and structural soundness. Chopper optimizes these criteria and generates a partition either automatically or with user guidance. Our prototype outputs the final decomposed parts with customized connectors on the interfaces. We demonstrate the effectiveness of Chopper on a variety of non-trivial real-world objects.

Antique Designer Use CNC Wood Router

With stores in Los Angles and Brooklyn, as well as its home base in Cleveland, Ohio, Jason Wein’s stark, minimalist designs are a favorite of Hollywood celebs. In High Point, the Cleveland Art space will feature lighting, shelves and tables built from industrial components and fasteners that Wein culls from defunct factories located throughout New England and America’s rust belt.
“Everything is American-made using recycled and repurposed materials, right down to the fasteners, because I think it’s the right thing to do,” Wein says. “A lot of the machines that we buy from New England are from the 1700s, before electricity, and have three or four lifetimes of workers behind them. Today, with CNC wood router and lasers, one man can operate 100 machines and the jobs have been outsourced overseas. It’s a different age and time, and we’ll never see this history again.”
Beth Lewis too is passionate about giving new life to old pieces, “taking something that someone has discarded as trash and turning it into something that someone else would love to have in their home, simply by visually displaying it in a way that’s pleasing,” she says.
A veteran merchant who opened her first retail shop at the tender age of 19, Lewis’ retail store in Marshville, N.C., about 35 miles East of Charlotte, is a mecca for fans of her blog and singular look, a combination of rustic farmhouse, old architectural pieces and industrial influences brought together by a neutral color palette. The Old Time Marketplace store is housed in a building built in 1910, which movie buffs will recognize as the setting for the general store in the Oscar-winning film, “The Color Purple.”

CNC Wood Router For Industrial Use

Woodworking Machinery for Industrial Use
• Shapers
As their name suggests, shapers are woodworking machinery that bring shapes to timber. In conjunction with cutters, they are appropriate for manufacturing accents for Australian crown moldings or furniture.
• Chisel mortisers and chains
These woodworking machines are relevant when producing precise holes on pieces of wood. They have the ability to control the hole’s depth as per the desired measurement.
• CNC Wood Routers
CNC Wood Router are very important tools when seeking to make intricate circles, patterns or designs in timber. There are various kinds of routers that comprise mid range, hobby, specialty and multi-axis routers. CNC Routers are a step above, favoured with very high end industrial woodworkers.

Most Australian industries rely on machinery in order to accomplish their tasks. There are various kinds of machinery for use in this regard. Examples include power machines, metalworking machinery, punching machines and shearing machines among others. Another important component of machinery includes woodworking machinery.
Woodworking machines trace their origins to 18th century England. They were important tools in the production of furniture. People also used them to make things such as, carts, wagons, axles, yokes and wheels. Currently, there are different categories of woodwork machinery for industrial use. Examples of woodworking machinery include:
• Jointers
Jointers are woodworking machines that flattens and straightens the edges of wood boards. Various industries also use it to smoothen bottom of the wood board. This allows the board to mover accurately through planers.
The structure of a jointer comprises an infeed table that is movable. Jointers also come embedded with outfeed tables and spinning heads. The latter contains knives.
• Table saws
Table saws consist of adjustable arbors with motors. They must also have a blade, fence and flat table for them to work properly. The functions of table saws majorly center on ripping and cross-cutting wood boards. In the former’s case, industries cut the wood boards along their grains. This is the opposite case in cross-cutting, which involves cutting across the board’s grain.

Ultimaker controlled with inbuilt tablet PC

Jarkko Moilanen didn't want to carry PC and printer together so he merged them. He can now control his Ultimaker with old Win 7 Exo PC tablet (UltiController), download models, slice them and listen music, and everything is built in as one unit. Ingenious idea! I can see this as new standard for 3d printers. There is enough cheep tablets floating around. He states that slicing is somewhat slow, but I think it can be solved with some optimization on software side.

    3D model surface restoration

Excellent mini tutorial by youtube user maxamillionschnell on how to restore and repair 3d printed model bottom surface that has white "ugly" finish on it. If you use acetone on it it will be shiny, and not to mention that acetone is toxic. He uses heat gun to get rid of white stuff and get nice mate finish.

Solution for CNC Wood Router No Back To Mechanical Origin?

What can we do if cnc wood router does not go back to mechanical origin?
Solutions are 1. If value is changing on software screen, but the machine does not move, please confirm that A. if machine is power on, B. confirm if controlling wire connected well, C, confirm driving motor make alram, D. Check if 12V or 24V switch power supply is broken.
2.If value does not change on cnc wood router software screen, please A. confirm control board is capatible with control software, B. check if control board plug very well,C, Plug to anther slot to see.
The above solutions usually can solve the problem of cnc wood router does not go back to mechanical origin.

    High-end 3d metal printing

I was looking around to see what's there on industrial side and found two interesting videos on metal 3d printing:

Direct Metal Laser Sintering - DMLS

Solution for Uneven Stone Engraving By CNC Router

Solution for Uneven Stone Engraving By CNC Router
Many cnc router users encounter this problem when engrave stone by cnc router. For tomb stone or other stone plate, why some position just touched by cnc router cutter, well some positions on stone are deeper engraved by cnc rotuer? This is related with the cnc router finding a blancing point on stone.
Before dispatching cnc wood router, manufacturers of cnc router will make working table even by cnc router milling cutter,so this is not the problem of cnc router table. Well, tomb stone or other stone must not so even, so if we make tool setting at left point, which is the highest point. This will cause some other position may can not be engraved. If this point is the lowest one, then may other position wil be keeper.
For avoding this problem, we suggest setting processing origin xy and z seperately. Still set xy at left down point of material, well, make z at the center of material, in this way, the whole engraving depth may is similar. If there is a big difference for different position material thickness, OMNI suggest make cnc router tool path to upper down two parts or upper, middle and down three parts. Or you use cnc router to measure the four edge point of material, according to X axis value to see which position is high, and which position is lower, then make some stuff under the material to keep the whole material even at most.

No Back To Origin For Laser Cutting Machine

What we can do if x and y axis does not go back to origin for laser cutting machine with RUIDA control system?
Turn on machine, press" ESC" on DSP screen of laser cutting machine, then move X axis manually on DSP screen, and touch limit sensor by hand, now see if light on mainboard is on.
If not on, then use multi-meter to test the wire from limit sensor to mainboard to see is limit sensor broken or wire problem.
The circle is related with limit sensor of laser cutting machine. Those four points are light, from down to up position, port 1 and 4 should be on if you touch limit sensor by hand.
If one of two lights does not turn on, then please click FILE on software screen, then click VENDOR SETTING, make screen record, and send the photo to us by email. Then OMNI engineer will solve this problem of laser cutting machine for you according to this.

Basic Solution for CNC Wood Router Problem

Basic Solution for CNC Wood Router Problem
Problem of CNC Wood Router are mainly as following:
    1. One axis of cnc wood router does not move. Now check the driver for this axis if work normal. The checking way: replace the driver on this axis with another axis, then to see if the other axis can work after mounted on replaced driver of cnc wood router. This way can confirm if there is problem with driver.
    2. If the axis can move after replaced another driver, and the other axis can not move, then it indicates that the other driver is with problem. If the axis still does not move, then it indicates that wire or motor are with problem. Now, please check if air plugs are connected very well with control cabinet, check if control cabinet power is on. Please check if cnc wood router cable wire is connected very well with motion control card in PC and control cabinet. If all checking result are no problem, then please contact OMNI for getting further support.
    3. Spindle can not rotate. Please check inverter LED screen value, and let us know, OMNI engieer will guide you how to fix this on cnc wood router.

Spindle Choose for CNC Wood Router

Spindle Choose for CNC Wood Router
Spindle is the important part for cnc wood router. The spindle quality effect processing speed and accuracy directly. So it is rather important that choosing high quality spindle on cnc wood router.
    1. If you value processing efficiency, requires high speed and big engagement of cutting edge, such as solid wood etc, you need spindle power equal or bigger than 3kw.
    2. CNC wood router requires spindlw with high accuracy bearing. If it is not, then the spindle will be over heating after long time high speed rotation, then the lifttime will be shortened. OMNI use high quality spindle with high accuracy bearing in spindle, and also offer LED screen for spindle of cnc wood router temprature measure. And it could show you the spindle temprature obviously, tell you may spindle need rest if it works rather long time.
    3. Check cnc wood router rotating sound if normal at different speed.
    4. Check if spindle radial direction is forced. This is for checking if could cut hard material at high speed. Some spindles only can cut hard material at lower speed, if adjust to high speed, spindle may lost rotate, after using for some period, may lost accracy or even broken.

Working 3D Printed Automatic Transmission Gear system

Created by thingiverse user emmett. Great working model.

    From the video description:

This is an automatic transmission model I designed and 3D printed (you can download the design here: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:34778). This type of gearing arrangement is common in automatic transmissions in cars, though the clutches and brakes and hydraulics that control them are far more complex than modeled here. Also missing is the torque converter.

These gears are known as herringbone, which are not generally found in real transmissions because they are too difficult to machine. However, they are easy to print, and they have the advantage of being self-centering.

Stone CNC Router Set Multi-Layer Engraving

How to set multi-layer in cnc stone router software? Stone is a kind of hard material, so when we set tool-down size, should notice make multi-layer while processing thick relief sculpture.
Firstly, in the software, we create and edit the file, set the relief sculpture size and depth. Here depth means relief sculpture depth. After setting, pre-view the relief sculpture with 3D view. Then set tool path, choose relief sculpture, then choose cutter, please notice that there is under cutting distance, this value is the size of cutting down size every time. This value is setted according to material hardness and cutter quality. Choose the item of multi z layer milling. At last Z tool path, input the total depth of relief sculpture. Then choose tool path simulation to see who tool path works. Then input the tool path to cnc stone router control system to start processing.

    CNC Wood Router Maintenance

    CNC Wood Router Maintance
    Machine Cleaness
    1. Clean working table in time after work every time, be convenient for next processing work.
    2. Clean powder on linear guide around area, for protecting machine tranmission get stuck while moving.
    3. Clean ballscrew in time, ballscrew decides the accuracy of machine.
    4. Clean control cabinet in time, dust affect the electrical spare parts seriously.
    1. Clean linear guide powder, ballcrew, then use cloth to make more clean. Oil to the ballscrew and linear guide, better use anti-frozen machine oil in winter.
    2. Oil machine twice every month.
    3. If machine does not run for long time, oil to machne and let axis travel on time.
    4. Move axis to travel slowly for ensure oil could be on linear guide and ballscrew.
