3D Printable Land Sailer Toy from Thailand

KungRC from Suphanburi,Thailand published a 3D printable land sailing vehicle that is remotely controlled.
He used a 10mm aluminum rods for structure and 100mm roller blade wheels. It is 3d printed on Innoprinter A4 machine.
It looks like a fun toy or an educational project.

OPAM water cooled metal hot end

OPAM is a new all metal jot end with water cooling from Singapore developed by Leong Khit. It will be open sourced when the Indiegogo campaign finishes.

The design is simplified by:
  • Combining the nozzle, heater block and heat sink into 1 single piece of SS304
  • Using water cooling as it is far more effective than air cooling
  • Removing any PEEK or PTFE material
The benefits of a One Piece design are as follows:
  • No leaks/jams between the nozzle and heater block's contact surface

Here isa review by Thomas of a Malyan M150, a 3d printer that looks like a clone of a first version of Wanhao i3. it goes trough several problems and safety issues including possible false certification issues.

KUKA robotic arm turned into six axis 3d printer produces self supporting floating structures

While six axis 3d printer is nothing new, they are quit rare. There have been even robotic arms hacked to print in all axis even with metal like MX3D Metal. Still I find this robot to be more aesthetic and organic in operation.
This machine prints self supporting floating structures inspired by spider webs in same ABS like most common DIY 3d printers and it is even Arduino controlled. It is based on KUKA industrial robotic arm and it is developed inside "Digital Future" project.

The project, Robotic 6-Axis 3D Printing, is a highly-integrated installation combining robotic system, 3D printing technique and interactive interface. It aims to provide the designer a digital method to eliminate the line between "Designing" and "Fabricating". In this case, architects provides more than just drawings and construction notes, however, they are capable of fabricating their work quickly and precisely by themselves
Most of today's researches and applications of robotic fabrication are limited to replicating human labor and raising efficiency of manufacturing. However, in the project of Robotic 6-Axis 3D Printing, we developed a fabrication strategy learning and emulating the law of nature (referring to Chinese philosophy "师法自然 ").
By studying the material and structure performance of 3D form in nature, we figured out a way to incorporate biomimetic fabrication strategy into 3D printing process. And by designing the special robotic-end effector (Tooling) and utilizing the great flexibility and accuracy of KUKA robot system, the biomimetic fabricating process has been fully realized.
The whole process embodied the concept of "Digital Craftsmanship", which emphasis the personality of designer and allows them to closely integrated "Designing" and "Fabricating".

Bonsai Lab BS Toy 3d printer and low temperature filament aimed at children

Bonsai Lab from Japan presented a new "BS Toy" 3d printer aimed at children and schools. It features ability to print with low temperature filemant material which melts at around 80C so that extruder should be "safe" for kids if they touch it.
The LT 80 filament is a flexible thermoplastic made by Polymakr LLC and it is designed to be from FDA approved materials to make it children safe. It is only colorless at the moment but it should be available in more colors.

Personally, I find this obsession with "safety" to be exaggerated. If school children can not be trusted not to touch heated element when warned about it, we have a much bigger problem then a burn they will get. But I grew up in a different time in a different culture.  As far as I understand liability laws and school administrator would want some similar "safe" technology. 
  • BS Toy dimensions: 200 (W) x 200 (D) x 200mm (H) 
  • Weight: 2.0kg 
  • Print volume: 130 (W) x 125 (D) x 100mm (H). 
  • Nozzle diameter: 0.4mm, with optional 0.2 to 0.5mm nozzles

ImproTable 1000 large 3d printer with multifeed mixing nozzle and Twin 3d printer

ImproTable 1000 is a big custom made DIY 3d printer developed by James Chang. It has 1m x 1m printing surface and unique mixing extruder with five filament input ports. It mixes the color of filaments and looks like it is working fine and fast.
There are no details or design plans of this machine released.

Solidry is new 3d model marketplace focused on Indian market

Genkei gigantic 4 meter tall Magna Delta 3d printer from Japan







Genkei is comapny from Japan that produces 3d printers. They made this enormous 4 meter tall Delta 3d printer. I think it is not designed to be real production printer, but more of a demonstration and promotional project.
It will use pelleted material for extrusion instead of filament. It makes perfect sense for this size of machine.

The 3d printer will be on display at the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music Museum, as part of an “Materializing II” exhibition that runs from Saturday, July 19 until Friday, August 8.

3-PRING is remixing real objects with 3d printable attachments


3-PRING Product is a design by Japanese studio TAKT Project of several different 3d printable attachments and connectors that combined with everyday objects transform them and give different functionality.
From project description:
3-PRING PRODUCT is a new D.I.Y. idea proposal that can change the usage of the product,or pursue user’s own better usability by adding 3D-printed parts to ready-made products.This time we used ready-made products of MUJI as an example.
Just like ‘Sampling Techniques’ in music industry which creating a new track by quoting tracks or sounds in the past,create an original product with adding own made parts while quoting ready-made product.
In this instance, We treat a 3D printer as a music instrument that can enhance the prospect exponentially for this 'sampling' process.
With making joint parts for plastic product, or parts which utilized size that is peculiar to ready-made product by 3D printer,it expand the possibility of incubate a new kind of customizing at this 3D printer generation.
From this perspective, the products in stores are not so much completed product but semifinished product,in another words, we can retake them as a material for new creation.
This kind of changing perspective is that we wanted design through this project,
and we also think there are possibilities for new creation regarding products in intermediate region where connect between 'consumer' and 'manufacture', not a choice between the two of them.

China leads the way (maybe) in low cost 3d printed houses

This story is interesting and somewhat strange. Over at 3ders.org they published an article about 10 3d printed houses that were made in one day in China.
Since it was published on April 1st some people thought it was a joke. There are photographs but third-party references are missing.
It is still feasible that it is real story since China leads the way in many technologies (in they own way) ...

A group of 3D printed houses, 200 m2 each, recently appears in Shanghai, China. These building were created entirely out of concrete using a gigantic 3D printer, and each costs only 30,000 RMB ($4,800).

The company behind these 3D printed building, Shanghai WinSun Decoration Design Engineering Co, said it has for years been working on developing the system and its materials. The company owns 77 national patents of construction materials, such as glass fiber reinforced gypsum and special glass fiber reinforced cement.

While Hobbyist models of 3D printers are currently available for only a few hundred dollars and lets users feed plastics and polymers into a machine, the company takes this technology to a bigger level. Using concrete, instead of plastic, WinSun wants to revolutionize the way homes and other structures are built.
WinSun's 150(L) x 10(W) x 6.6(H) m gigantic 3D printer is capable of printing entire building within hours. The 'ink' it used is based on high-grade cement and glass fiber. Like traditional 3D printers, the system carefully spills out those materials layer by layer, consistently building upwar
In addition, it is very impressive that the printing material is recycled construction waste, industrial waste and tailings.
WinSun plans to build 100 recycling factories in the country, one in every 300km, to collect and transform the waste into materials for 3D printing through special handling, processing and separation technology. "There will not be any waste from the construction of new buildings." said WinSun CEO Ma YiHe. WinSun expects 3D printing will save construction companies up to 50% on the cost.

AOD Artist Android powered 3d printer from China

This printer from Chine is one of those machines where there is only a few CG images and few specifications. In some articles it is mentioned that the company successfully crowd-founded it on some Asian sites.
Its main distinguishing features are Android powered  touch screen control unit and ability to store files in "AOD Smartcloud". Now, it would be interesting to see who would trust this cloud service to store some industrial prototypes ... future will tell if this machine will have success ...
