Advantages of a timing belt driven Z-axis:
Most 3D printer systems use a lead screw or a threaded rod as drive for the Z-axis. Backlash and imbalance cause errors in X- and Y-direction when moving the Z-axis. These errors are visible as vertical pattern on the printed object.
When using two timing belts as attachment for the Z-axis these errors can cleverly be avoided. Consequently the Z-axis is nearly error free, thus the layers of a printed object lie perfectly on top of each other.

There will be single and dual extruder versions, currently they are on pre-order: First delivery in February 2014.

Habu dual extruder 3D printer and laser cutter hybrid

Habu is combination of dual extruder 3d printer and detachable laser cutter / engraver. It is home brew DIY printer made by Reddit user Ridgeback111.

It's based on a hybrid Mendel90 / Prusa i3. It has dual extruders and a laser cutter. Took about two months to design and build. The plastic parts were printed on a Printrbot Jr.

200x200x200mm build volume, custom designed/printed dual filament extruders holding J-Head Mark-V hotends with dual 40mm cooling fans, 80mm print cooling fan/with custom bio hazard grill, 1.7W laser cutter(jtechphotonics)/(able to hack through/etch paper, plastics and 1/4" wood), MK3 aluminum heated bed, six(!) Nema17 stepper motors, Megatronics V2 computer with DRV8825 1/32 step motor drivers, all extruded aluminum construction, GT2 timing belts/gears, M8 Z drive screws on vibration dampening couplers, all axis movements are tracked by gantry plates with precision rails and matching (ball bearing) wheels. To ensure that your bed is always perfectly flat for 3D printing when Robox® is configured as an FFF system, the print surface is constructed from PEI laminate material, which requires no tape, glues or special preparation. Heated Bed with Removable Print Surface - Certain models and materials benefit from different print surfaces. The small cutout section on the front right of the bed allows easy removal.
Enclosed Build Chamber - Robox® has the option of a fully-enclosed build envelope for stabilising the printing environment, improving results and making it safer. When a printed part cools (particularly when made from ABS) unevenly or too rapidly, it shrinks unevenly, causing warp cracks and de-lamination.
